Sophie Calle (1953)

Description

1953, France, lives/works in Paris.Sophie Calle’s work lies on the edge between fact and fiction. She oversteps the bounds of privacy and exploits the public domain by confronting it with a sense of intimacy. Calle observes and shadows the behavior of individuals. She is continually in search of stories hidden behind the practice of daily life. Her photo pieces and texts display an implicit scepticism with regard to the image’s degree of truthfulness. Calle’s work has been shown in such exhibitions as Spectrum- International Prize for Photography of the Foundation of Lower Saxony, Sprengel Museum, Hannover, 2002 (solo) and the Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris, 2003 (solo). De Appel showed herAveugles (blind) project in 1986.
