De seminars worden in Engels gegeven.
Following the success of their previous collaboration, de Appel arts centre and the University of Amsterdam jointly present the four curating seminars of the Art History M.A. course “Doing Modern & Contemporary Art”. Under the guidance of Ann Demeester and Sophie Berrebi, the students participating in the course will be introduced to basic concepts and issues in curatorial discourse. The curating seminars of the course “Doing Modern & Contemporary Art” will take place in February/April 2012, at the University of Amsterdam.
18 April :THE FUTURE of the audience – your view
At the beginning of this seminar series you were invited to develop a proposal for an exhibition of modern and/or contemporary art in groups of 4. During this session you will present your proposal to the group and get critical feedback and a response from both tutors Sophie Berrebi and Ann Demeester and your fellow-students.
Your proposal should consist in:
- a concept, developed over 1 to 2 pages.
- an illustrated list of artists (please mention whether you would choose existing works and which or if you would commission new work)
- a description of the space and/or institution ( commercial gallery, non-art space, museum etc etc. in which the exhibition would take place
- a seminal description of your audience outreach approach
- a bibliography of background information on artists or theoretical references for the concept
