Book Bloc Brigade
Omschrijving
Book Bloc Brigade werd opgericht als reactie op de aanhoudende genocide in Gaza en het gewelddadige politieoptreden tegen studenten in tentenkampen op universiteiten in heel Nederland. De Book Bloc bestaat uit boekomslagen die zijn aangepast tot schildformaat. Deze schilden zijn te zien, maar ook beschikbaar voor bruikleen tijdens de reguliere openingstijden van de Appel.
De Book Bloc is in november 2010 bedacht door de Italiaanse studentenbeweging tegen de onderwijshervormingen van Berlusconi. Een book bloc bestaat uit geschilderde boekomslagen op kartonnen schilden. Ze geven redenen voor opstand en vastberadenheid om weerstand te bieden, ze bieden bescherming tegen politiegeweld, ze vormen een wandelende bibliografie en ze leveren geweldige mediabeelden op. Ze zijn nooit een wapen. Deze keer is de book bloc terug om de tentenkampen op universiteiten en andere protesten te steunen uit solidariteit met de Palestijnse bevrijding. Met deze Brigade willen ze het ontwerp van de schilden blijven verbeteren en mensen leren hoe ze deze kunnen maken, om activisten in hun strijd te beschermen en aan te moedigen. Het station bij de Appel stelt de schilden ter beschikking aan kameraden om te lenen (en terug te brengen) tijdens de openingstijden van de Appel. Je vindt het station naast de trap naar de tentoonstellingsruimte. Vraag een host bij de receptie voor instructies.
de Appel organiseert dit kunstproject als onderdeel van haar maatschappelijke verantwoordelijkheid voor een vrije samenleving.
