Description
The Joyful Anticipation performance consists of two parts. This video is the registration of the second part of the performance.
On the first day the exhibition space has been transformed into a bar. The artist is not visibly present in the bar, but is on the balcony, separated from the scene by a black cloth. She introduces the sounds of music, talking, laughing, street sounds, and sings and speaks through the microphone.
On the second day Moniek is talking about the events of the night before. She is standing behind a wide stretched dress, its sides and skirt attached to the walls and the floor. Under the dress there is a sound-system installed, consisting of tape recorders, cymbals, bells, a tambourine, a small microphone, amplifiers and sound boxes. The story she tells is a combination of the experiences which others had related to the artist. She exaggerates the details and shares her impressions about the previous night, even though she wasn’t present at the performance space. While she is drinking wine she gets into the same state of mind as some people did the night before.
