People and things are connected in an entanglement of relations. Yet we usually see this combination only from one perspective: what does the object do for us? If we look beyond these actions, we see that our interaction with objects will also put us in motion.

The unnoticed influence that objects have on us is being examined in the project Object-Observer. Trebelsee – an initiative of Bernke Klein Zandvoort and Caroline Ruijgrok – previously organized an exhibition and a symposium. In the last part of the project a book is published. In Hoe de dingen ons bewegen (How things move us) 24 writers, artists and scientists examine from their personal or professional experience how objects set mankind in motion and in which way objects affect our behavior, our emotions, but also influence how we look at and think about the world. The book is in turn the starting point for the performance programme Are you a sculpture ?.

“Are You a Sculpture?” brings together performances in which the driving force of objects is the main focus. The programme has the form of a carrousel and will spread across the building, in spaces that are normally less visible to for? visitors. The audience is guided along the performances (some in English, some in Dutch) in groups. Afterwards there will be drinks and the book “Hoe de dingen ons bewegen” will also be for sale.

There is limited capacity. To book, send an email to reservation@deappel.nl.

Entrance 3 euro

From August 4 to September 4 Trebelsee will show a selection from the archive of Object-Observer in Solus on the 2nd floor.
