In the wake of the festivities of New Year’s Eve we would like to draw your attention to a number of recent brand new catalogues and artist books published by de Appel.
On 14 January 2011, we would like to present these new books to you personally from 5 p.m. during a book launch with drinks. “The Shadowfiles”, a new periodical publication of de Appel which will be published once a year, will have central place that evening. “The Shadowfiles” focuses on the activities of de Appel which are not always immediately noticed by the general public. The periodical reveals the undercurrent of (hidden) ideas and desires, thoughts and texts which serve as a permanent source of inspiration for de Appel arts centre.
In this first edition of “The Shadowfiles” the shadow project “Take the money and run” has central place. This project was organised by de Appel in 2010 as part of the benefit auction “Two in One”. The proceeds of the auction, organised in collaboration with Christie’s and Witte de With, were to bring about the renovation of the future home base of de Appel on the Prins Hendrikkade 142.
Our guests, including Judith van Ingen (former coordinator of Christie’s and current director of the Grimm Gallery), Suzanne Oxenaar (artistic director of Lloyds Hotel and member of the board of de Appel) and Alexander Mayhew (publicist and collector) will talk about the ins and outs of the auction on 14 January from their own personal point of view, as well as the “Take the Money and Run” project which is linked to this.
Marius Hofstede, designer of “The Shadowfiles”, will end the evening in party mode as DJ Marius & Renkas (NON records).
