Cinema Sounds Synergy II

03–30.05.2002
de Appel, Nieuwe Spiegelstraat 10, Amsterdam

Cinema: Roy Villevoye/ Jan Dietvorst, us/them, 2002 ‘Two Asmat brothers from Papua visit the Netherlands for the first time. With their knowledge of nature they easily find their way through the 'Vondelpark'. They immediately notice the appropriate trees for their sculptures. The filmus/them tells a story of Asmat people within Western culture.’ (Press release De Appel) Sounds: Stephen Vitiello, Humming Birds Feeder, 2001 ‘Stephen Vitiello is interested in the physicality of sound and its potential to define the shape, feel and color of a room. He is also interested in exploring how people receive sound and to what extent he may create a work with no visual component. Offering an environment in which a gallery or museum viewer will be enticed into listening with the attention that they would give to a visual or audio-visual work" De Appel presents Stephen Vitiello in an installation entitled Humming Birds Feeder.’ (Press release De Appel) Synergy: Golden Masters, Big Mac Space Model. Minijack 02, 2002 ‘A collaboration between various disciplines intended to reveal or to discover heuristically how much they have in common and how this can be communicated in a fruitful way. The walls of the Synergy Room will be the medium. Golden Masters (Harmen Liemburg, 1966, and Richard Niessen, 1972) were invited to work on these walls. The design work of Golden Masters reveals a pronounced interest in printed material. Remarkably, their printed work often looks like buildings: they have a spatial, constructive form language which is inspired by architectural design. Golden Masters grasp every means to innovate their graphic work. Their copious output of printed material attests to a boundless creative energy. During April, the space-filling magazine Big Mag Space Model will be in progress on the walls. Fifteen artists will be invited to make contributions. The resulting magazine will be presented on 3 May.’ (Press release De Appel) Catalogue / 3 posters: MINIJACK 01 & 02 REPORTED BY GOLDENMASTERS FEBRUARY - JULY 2002, 2002.
