‘Arhgbrou 4.3’, our third 2 UNLIMITED summer event on Wednesday 18 July at 19:00, is a mbi-eshobi surround event with artist Em’kal Eyongakpa. Opening up a space for indigenous sound, Eyongakpa approaches the experienced, the unknown, and the collective through a ritual use of repetition and transformation, as well as by building immersive sound environments that are often community focused.

Arhgbrou 4:3 is a series of surround sonic experiments, interventions/sonic monuments, based on non mathematical combinations and transformations of field recordings, mundane and acousmatic sounds in line with over 13 rhythmic variations from the gulf of Guinea. Arhgbrou 4:3 revisits rhythmic principles from Malleh, Mukonge, Etokobi, Newen, with vocal references employing poetics from public aspects of the Ekpe, Ahon sacred society's aesthetics amongst others. It uses a quad system plus 3 sub-woofers, powered by a routing inspired by ''Arhgbrou'' and ''eMungoWest'' electronic interfaces developed by the artist and partners. For the session at De Appel, the artist will use mainly ultrasonic recordings from the Bijlmer and elsewhere, to sketch ideas on the sonic aspect of water for healing, remembrance and torture on some ongoing resistance movements.
