Sensing Interdependence is a retrospective exhibition on the work of the Italian art collective Arts For the Commons (A4C), a collaboration between Ecuadorian artist Rosa Jijon and activist and artistic researcher Francesco Martone. The exhibition tackles the notion of interdependence between nature and humans. It is guest-curated by Aria Spinelli and Angelo Castucci.
de Appel Kiosk: announcement upcoming projects
The Kiosk will return to Dappermarkt and Albert Cuypmarkt in July this year. Three proposals have been selected from an open call: Buurtijs by Honey Jones-Hughes & Antonio de la Hera, Social Bank by Saemundur Thor Helgason and de aardAppel by Özgür Atlagan & Ulufer Çelik.

In the context of the exhibition Sensing Interdependence, de Appel screens the documentary I Am the River, the River Is Me (2025) at Filmtheater Kriterion, accompanied by a screening of video work by A4C titled Vilcabamba, de iura fluminis et terrae (2022): a visual and sonic representation of rivers with rights throughout the world, and a short reading by the curator of the exhibition.
Remembering, smuggling and returning – Notes on de Appel Kiosk’s two invited projects
In the lead-up to the next iterations of de Appel Kiosk, Milena Bonilla Galeano reflects on the two initiatives that took over the market stand last year: the project DOOS ¡No hacemos moneda falsa! by art cooperative Espacio Estamos Bien, and Wà el El Alouche’s Metti.

The Complaints Choir is back and looking for new voices to turn complaining into an art form. The Complaints Choir is a DIY, community art project in which singers and non-singers alike come together to sing about their complaints. Led by musician Azubike Onwuka, the choir will explore different perspectives and issues by complaining, composing and singing together. The Complaints Choir is serious and light-hearted, and makes room for both recognition and humour.

Embracing child-friendly environments means rethinking what behaviour is considered acceptable in cultural spaces. We have been thinking about this recently with artist Mercedes Azpilicueta who will be employing her sculptures as characters and composite costumes for children as well as building a sensory experience where children and adults can experience play as an act of invention rather than mere imitation.

Demos examining the intersection of technolibertarianism, settler-colonial Zionism, and the ongoing genocide/ecocide in Gaza. The talk will be hosted by Cinetol.

You are invited to an 8 day long public programme convened by damdam, an interconnected web of collectives emerging from de Appel’s Curatorial Programme, the Lumbung Practice program at Sandberg Instituut and Gudskul from Indonesia. Between 29 May and 6 June 2025, at de Appel and in several other locations in and outside of Amsterdam, the collective will convene a public living space to introduce their ecosystem, and get to know each other better.
