Podcast by DAI COOP Study Group on Radio Alhara

de Appelβs COOP Study Group at the Dutch Art Institute, Living Room: Rehearsals towards Place-making, explores collectively the question of communal space and its potential in resistance. The outcomes of their collective study is airs as podcasts on Radio Alhara.
Resonance remains is the second episode of the radio series. It emerges from a three day workshop illuminating the contours of ancient cities and contemporary violence, suspended landscapes and displacements. Participants from the de Appel and Bulegoa z/b study groups traveled to Famagusta (Cyprus) as witnesses of three episodes reflecting on the sediments of history and conflicts, as well as present-day resonance and concrete monuments of capitalist relations. After the initial disorientation, you begin to hear spectral voices, rehearsals, signals, static β all built of history materialized as absence or silence; ruins overgrown with weeds, and present luxuries flanked by well-kept lavender and perfectly cut lawns. The vehicle drives us past an interminable row of commercials, advertising lives of utmost delight and heavenly views for individual gratification; in frozen colours, a cheating promise of accumulation. History sediments its relationships of domination, repeating itself into obliteration. Violence lingers beneath the surface; look over your shoulder, back in time, and time dissolves giving way to loss.
Listen to the podcast on Radio Alhara on 8 June 2025, from 11pm to midnight CET.
