de Appel is looking for Hosts!

de Appel is a daring institution founded in 1975. It soon became internationally known as an alternative institutional model, born out of artists' need to present performance and video art. Today, de Appel continues to act as a host for artistic and curatorial experimentation. Through a programme of embedded art in schools and society, a thirty-year-old Curatorial Programme and an active archive, de Appel brings people together to practise a mutual exchange of knowledge through exhibitions and live activations.

To support the team, we are looking for Hosts.
The Hosts are the first point of contact for the visitors of de Appel and are responsible for welcoming and directing them. Furthermore they ensure (in collaboration with the whole team) that everything runs smoothly in the exhibition space.

What will you do?
β€’ Welcoming and informing visitors about current and upcoming activities;
β€’ Selling admission tickets, books and other items;
β€’ Managing the cash register;
β€’ Managing the bookshop;
β€’ Recording and processing visitor numbers;
β€’ Inspecting the exhibition areas and general public areas, keeping them clean and checking installations for proper functioning;
β€’ Being the contact point for visitors and contributors during events;
β€’ Processing mail;
β€’ Assisting the Directors with simple administrative tasks;
β€’ Contributing to the joint running of the kitchen and reception (together with the other hosts and the entire team).

Position in the organisation:
The Host is accountable to the Producer and the Directors. The position is for a variable number of hours (preferably a minimum of two shifts of 6 hours each per week), during weekends and evenings. Weekly shifts are agreed upon monthly with the Producer.

What is your profile?
β€’ Fluent in Dutch and/or English;
β€’ Proactive, takes initiative;
β€’ Hands-on mentality;
β€’ Interested in (and preferably familiar with) contemporary art and culture.
