De Appel is looking for a Communications Officer (3 – 4 days a week)

De Appel is a space for coming together around exhibitions, curatorial and education programmes, archive and library. Founded in 1975, De Appel has always been an experimental space for contemporary art, firmly established internationally with its Curatorial Programme, established in 1994.

The communications officer is responsible for helping to shape the communications policy and implementing it, and is a vital member of the team. They will work under the supervision of the business and the artistic directors.

What will you do?

- develop and implement de Appel's communication policy
- together with the directors, define the yearly budget and monitor it
- help shape the voice of de Appel in lieu with its programming
- attract and engage new pertinent audiences to the Appel
- write texts for the website, social media, news items and newsletters;
- initiate and produce content for the website, social media etc.
- manage the website
- maintain and initiate press contacts and speaking to the press
- maintain and manage relations in the address file
- work closely with designers, photographers, interviewers, event coverage, etc
- monitor communication planning and providing data to external parties
- collate narrative annual reports
- archive communication activities
- translate texts from Dutch to English and vice versa.
- supervise a communications intern

What is your profile?

- fluent in Dutch and English
- experienced communicator and collaborator
- proactive, takes initiative
- excellent written language skills in a jargon-free style
- experience in systems such as CMS, FileMaker Pro, InDesign etc.
- previous experience in a related role or field
- hands-on mentality
- interested in (and preferably familiar with) the field of art and culture
- you could also be a cultural producer (artist, filmmakers…etc.) with experience in communications

We offer

A 1-year appointment with the possibility of extension on good performance. 3 months trial time. We offer a salary in line with the Fair Practice Code and a dynamic environment where you can learn and grow. The remuneration is in line with the employment conditions of our sector and, depending on experience, amounts to a minimum of € 2,500, - and a maximum of € 3,200, - gross for a full-time appointment per month. The position is for three to four days a week.
