Project descriptions: With a manual remote control, TV viewers can steer a ‘flying eye’ from their living rooms. It’s even possible to scout the Sahara this way. Better yet, a race between two ‘flying eyes’ can be settled at home like the one shown here, where red and blue eyes race each other low over the waterways between Arnhem and Rotterdam. This invention of American artist Stephen ‘s Soreff, whose work field is the (imaginable) future, offers a surprising glimpse of the democratic possibilities of TV anno 1991. The Flying Eye was inspired by and conducted by the Appel Foundation and produced by MonteVideo. Both English and Dutch versions exist; the latter was broadcasted 20.06.1981 on Mokum TV, a pirate station.
