Uitmarkt 2014

30–31.08.2014
Museumplein, Amsterdam

During the annual Uitmarkt on August 30 and 31, de Appel arts centre presents its exhibition programme 2014-15 in a joint presentation with the 16 cultural organisations from the Plantage neighbourhood.

16 cultural institutions have joined forces in one stand on the Uitmarkt. Visitors enter a green ‘mini Plantage neighbourhood’ with a tea garden and various installations from the museums. Extending over two days there will be an extensive, interactive programme during which each institution will showcase part of its programme or collection. This is a unique opportunity for visitors to get to know the Plantage neighbourhood in all its facets. The stand clearly shows that the Plantage is the green, cultural hotspot of Amsterdam.

One can for example have jewels cleaned by an experienced goldsmith from Gassan Diamonds, or take a crash course in contemporary art the Appel arts centre. Staff of the Hortus demonstrate how plants cuttings can be planted and cared for, the Rembrandt house has a real etching press on which you can print a real Rembrandt etch. You can have your photo take as a Regent in the 17th Century at Hollanders of the Golden Age and ARCAM would like your ideas on an ideal residential town; or win a fantastic prize at the Big Plantage Quiz!

De Plantage Amsterdam is a collaboration between de Appel arts centre, ARCAM, Natura Artis Magistra, Gassan Diamonds, Hermitage Amsterdam, Hollanders van de Gouden Eeuw, Hortus Botanicus Amsterdam, Koninklijk Theater Carré, Museum Het Rembrandthuis, Nationale Opera & Ballet, Het Scheepvaartmuseum, Science Center NEMO, Tropenmuseum, Verzetsmuseum Amsterdam and Joods Cultureel Kwartier: Joods Historisch Museum | Portugese Synagoge | Hollandsche Schouwburg www.plantageamsterdam.nl
