Award ceremony Prize for Young Art Criticism

On November 29 during, during a festive ceremony at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, the winners are annouced in the categories Essay (€ 7,500), Review (€ 5,000) and the new part Internet Criticism (€ 1,500).

On this evening a mini-debate will take place between three representatives from national Dutch newspapers:

Chris Buur (chef V de Volkskrant)
Eric Rinckhout (kunstredacteur de Morgen)
Sandra Smallenburg (kunstredacteur NRC)

Moderator: Ann Demeester (director de Appel arts centre)

The prize is meant to stimulate young art critics and increase the media attention for art criticism and journalism of high qualitative standards. In 2012, the biannual prize is awarded for the third time. The year’s winners are announced during a ceremony at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam on Thursday 29 November 2012, from 7.30 to 9 pm, following the second day of the symposium taking place from 4 to 7 pm. The categories are Essay (€ 7.500), Review (€ 5.000) and the new category Internet critic (€ 1.500). The Prize is accesible for young talent until 35 years. For this edition the organization recieved 21 entries of which 9 have been nominated:

The Prize for Young Art Criticism was founded in 2008 on the initiative of de Appel arts center, Mondriaan Fund and Witte de With, Center for Contemporary Art in collaboration with the Flemish-Dutch House deBuren. See also: jongekunstkritiek.net

The jury of the Prize for Young Art Criticism in 2012 consists of: Alie van Arragon (reader de Groene Amsterdam), Ingrid Commandeur (art critic and director AICA Netherlands), Ward Daenen (coordinator opinion and readers heading De Morgen), Arnoud Holleman (artist / Writer), Jan Postma (editor hard / / hoofd) and Xandra Schutte (editor De Groene Amsterdammer) chaired by Peter Verhelst (poet, novelist and theatre-writer).

In this edition of the Prize for Young Art Criticism cooperation with ao Netherlands AICA (Association Internationale des Critiques d'Art) and Domain for Art Criticism.
