Paul Sietsema "Three Films"

19.04–25.05.2008
de Appel, Nieuwe Spiegelstraat 10, Amsterdam

Opening: Friday 18 April, from 6 pm onwards in de Appel

Curator: Ann Demeester (BEL/NL)

The American artist Paul Sietsema (Los Angeles, 1968) has earned a reputation during the last decennium with a refined cinematographic oeuvre of three films. Within the context of Sietsema’s first solo exhibition in Europe, the three works will be screened as a trilogy on the second floor of de Appel building. “Untitled (Beautiful Place)” (1998), “Empire” (2002) and the new production “Figure 3” (2008), represent three distinct phases in a conceptual artistic expedition through (art) history. Work by Paul Sietsema is currently also on show in a solo presentation at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (up to June 22th) and in the context of the 5th Berlin Biennial (till June 16th).

Guided tour of the exhibition by curators Roel Arkesteijn and Ann Demeester:
