Launch FR David nr. 2
de Appel, Nieuwe Spiegelstraat 10, Amsterdam
F.R. David focuses on the ‘status’ of language in contemporary art practice. Writing as imaginative thinking, as a mode that informs and feeds, supports and describes, backs up and interprets, comments and reflects upon contemporary artistic production. Writing as ‘the core material’ of a number of visual artists but equally as a mode that exists parallel to or in service of the visual. The second issue of F.R. David, edited by Ann Demeester, Edna van Duyn, Dieter Roelstraete and Will Holder deals with “The stuff and nonsense”. The issue focuses on the ‘(il)legibility’ accepted in visual art and visualized with language as ‘sculpture’ and not as a means of communication - it contains contributions by a.o. Matias Faldbakken, Jonathan Meese, Margriet Schavemaker, Merleau-Ponty, Sue Tompkins, James Lee Byars and Barry Johnston.
