'Accord is a work by Larry Miller, in co-operation with [the] psychics [Willem Alfrink and Klaas Jonkman]. Accord is in the shape of a musical composition. In this work, Larry Miller acts as a composer/conductor. There are four participants [Louwrien Wijers, Lárus H. Grimsson, Michel Waisvisz and Alfred van den Heuvel], who are instrumentalists and instruments at the same time. Together they represent both the orchestra and a cross section of the public. In the prelude the four participants are selected according to four different methods. Consequently, meetings with these persons are arranged by the composer, usually at the person's home. These meetings have the purpose of getting tuned in to each other. In the third movement of Accord - the most essential part of the work - the members of the orchestra gather for a collective meeting. The notes, which have been selected during the private meetings in combination with the conductor, are joined into accord by the composer/conductor. By means of an artificial device - the music machine - the orchestra is brought into harmony. The interaction between the instrumentalists will be made sonorous in metaphorical way. The Music machine being an indirect medium, Miller calls it a Remote Music Machine, a music machine both realising and symbolising the interaction from a distance. The last movement of Accord is the refrain. The duration of Accord is determined by the life-span of the conductor and the participants.' (De Appel 2 (1982) 2, p. 29.)
