'Inside out, inside every environment, inside or outside, to enter into. Perhaps it is possible to create the experience of what the German author Peter Handke meant by the title of his book The inside world of the outside world of the inside world. (...) The installation in De Appel is based on our performance experience, and attempts to convey what we have also tried to convey by means of our performances. On the basis of its specific physical properties, the installation creates the possibility of generating e.g. a 'mobile energy' without the necessity of our physical participation. This 'mobile energy' can lead to an 'energy or existence dialogue' with the 'inhabitants'. It is perhaps easier to conceive it as an image of biological involvement. All the more reason that an installation as we conceive it will surround the existence of the inhabitant who will, in his willingness to participate, be confronted with an 'obligation'. In this way such an installation gives rise to a different experiential value. The visitor becomes 'participant', because the realises that the situation embraces him, encloses him. That alone is enough to bring about an 'existential dialogue'. ' (Ulay / Marina Abramovic, invitation De Appel, March/April 1979.)
