In immense sadness we remember
Â
Ulay has been in de Appel from the beginning - as an inspirer, as a maker, as a thinker, as the representative of the unexpected, as the one who sheds a different light on everything, as a friend, as an omnipresent intense soul, but above all, a good and caring human.
Essential for the art community and for the making of de Appel. Essential for Wies Smals, the founder of de Appel whom Ulay called; Mutter Courage. Ulay, who regarded de Appel as his home and regularly returned since 1974 in always changing guises, but never without bringing the new and the amazing.
Â
Ulay, who leaves essential, iconic images;
as the light erases the images
they remain ineffaceable in our memory.
