Manifold Books' attic beam fragment
interrāre, al-dafn: Scattering and the counter Archive, collection (unintended)
130 year old pine wood
For her show Si t ú te vas at Manifold Books, Francisca Khamis Giacoman proposed to replace a piece of our beam construction with a piece of wood
from an olive tree at Al Makhrour on the West Bank in Palestine. The wood was taken from a branch of a very old tree standing on the land of her grandmother, that is threatened by colonists while it still belongs to Francisca's family. The wood from the beam is now buried on this land as part of her interr ā re project, both wooden pieces functioning like different kinds of support structures. Francisca choose to cut the beam at eyesight, so that the newly
added support receives maximum visibility once you enter our space. However, precisely at this spot Manifold Books' founder Maartje Fliervoet's son, Lorenz Birkholz, had once written his name. After consulting with him, it was decided that this gesture is now part of interrāre and part of the archive extension.
