Clare Butcher (b.1985, Harare, Zimbabwe) finished her Honours thesis in Art Historical Studies at the University of Cape Town, Nov 2007. Her major focus was the changing face of documentary photographic practices in Southern Africa and the various curatorial responses to this. The project involved holding photography workshops with high school students in the city and a range of photo-based exhibitions. She was curator at the Center for African Studies in Cape Town, assistant to ICP Young Photographer of the Year, 2008, Mikhael Subotzky and now works as a guest curator on the permanent collection at the Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven.

 

Lilian Engelmann (b. 1977, Leipzig, Germany) studied art history and economics in Leipzig (Germany) and Vienna (Austria) and graduated 2004 with an MA thesis about the Atlas Archive from Walid Raád. She worked at the Vienna Secession, was Tutor at the University in Leipzig and organised different Seminars about video art and courses around the question of the Eurocentric of Art History Education in Germany. As independent curator she did diverse public art project such as “Westend 05 – know your rights” in Leipzig. Since 2005 she works as curator for a Kunstverein at the Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz in Berlin and realized projects with Michaela Meise, Simon Dybbroe Møller, Lucas Lenglet a.o. In 2007 she founded the non-commercial art space: emyt in Berlin: emyt presents and mediates contemporary artistic positions and provides a space for artists and curators with the opportunity to test and discuss different curatorial practices. Besides thematic group exhibitions and solo presentations: emyt aims to be a space to discuss forms of representation of art and social issues. As part of the exhibitions and presentations talks are organized in which artistic strategies, processes and issues are discussed. www.emyt.de

Mia Jankowicz (b. 1980, London, Great Britain) studied Visual Cultures MA at Goldsmiths College before working as the Residencies Curator at Gasworks, London. Via the residency programme and its projects she invited non UK-based artists for projects and artistic development, as well as organizing a series of international residencies with partners such as Lugar a Dudas, Colombia; Khoj, Delhi; and El Basilisco, Argentina. She has also co-curated public projects variously involving exhibitions, residencies, a seminar and an architectural intervention, such as Slash Fiction (2007) with Nav Haq, Resident (2007) and Disclosures (2008) with Anna Colin. Disclosures marks her continuing interest in open source-influenced cultural practices and the parallels between art, new media and activism. In 2007 she won the friezeWriters' Prize for new and emerging critics, and is a contributor to Untitled and frieze magazine.

 

Since 2005, Christina Li (b.1982, Hongkong, China) has been running Para/Site Art Space (www.para-site.org.hk) together with Tobias Berger after its departure from an artist-run space. During her time as the Curator of the space, she focused her interests in researching on artistic practices in the Pearl River Delta and developing a discourse within the delta region that relates to the context of Hong Kong contemporary art and culture. Apart from curating group exhibitions, she has worked on projects by Cao Fei, Christian Jankowski, Lee Kit, Noritoshi Hiragawa and Lawrence Weiner as well as presented a series of exhibitions at Para/Site Central presenting small projects of young emerging Hong Kong artists. Christina Li graduated from the University of Hong Kong with a degree in Fine Arts (Art History) and Comparative Literature.

 

Ana Nikitović (b.1977, Belgrade, Serbia) studied History of Art at the University of Belgrade and School for History and Theory of Images, an independent educational project founded by Center for Contemporary Arts in Belgrade. Since 2001 she has been collaborating with the Centre for Contemporary Arts, Belgrade. She was one of the curators of the Yugoslav Biennial of Young Artists, "Untitled As Yet" in Vršac and member of Prelom kolektiv (www.prelomkolektiv.org), Belgrade based group of theorists, curators and activists working on Prelom magazine and organizing various projects. Since 2004 working in the Museum of Contemporary Art in Belgrade. Curator of the "SPAPORT" international annual exhibition of contemporary Art in Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Ji Yoon Yang (b.1977, Seoul, Korea) studied Computer Art at School of Visual Arts, New York after transferring from Ewha Womens’ University in Seoul. She completed her MFA degree from Graduate School of Communication at Yonsei University. In 2004, Yang participated as one of the editors for two books, Korean Museums, Museums of the World by Korean Museum Associations. She performed in-depth research for the current issues with contemporary museums. For two years since 2006, Yang worked as a curator at Alternative Space LOOP, which defines itself as alternative to the Korean art scene and Asian art by confronting Globalization. At LOOP, she curated numerous contemporary exhibitions of performance, installation and media art. Yang currently works as an independent curator. She organized Sound Effects Seoul 2007, the first major sound art festival in Korea with Baruch Gottlieb and curated the Youido Public Art Project commissioned by Seoul City. Her interest is to communicate with the public for new social comments through unorthodox ways such as radio, sound, performance and media art. (more)
